Who we are and how we train

BladeClub Zlín is a Japanese jiu-jitsu club. We build on more than a hundred years this art has lived in the Czech lands.

More than a century of tradition

Japanese jiu-jitsu reached Czechoslovakia in the early twentieth century and has lived here its own life ever since. We do not practise one particular school. What we teach is a synthesis of the schools that arrived back then — tested by decades of practice and constantly measured against what actually works.

A safe mat for everyone

The club creates a safe environment for studying martial arts for anyone, regardless of gender, age or level. Respect and care for your partner matter as much as technique — without them nobody learns anything, because they are busy being afraid.

Classes are not split by gender, age or skill. A beginner trains next to an advanced student and both gain something: one is learning, the other finds out whether they understand the technique well enough to pass it on.

We work like a family

The whole family can train. Parents and children practise together — children from the age of seven always alongside a parent. Parents training with their children get a discount on the membership; we agree on it in person.

Jiu-jitsu for modern life

We do not come to the mat for competitions. We treat jiu-jitsu as a tool for a better life: it gives confidence, calm in unexpected situations and a healthier body. What you take away from training gets used far more often outside the gym than in it.
